Take the time to learn the rules of that particular site and what protections it offers buyers. Do not assume different sites follow the same rules.
Know your Seller
Verify their identity and assess their reputation. Review their online feedback to gauge other buyers' experiences with them and look at their other sale items to learn their expertise. Contact the seller and ask questions, verifying their contact information and making sure you understand their terms and conditions. Ask if a warranty is included and about their policies on returns, shipping, and payment.
Bid Smart

Don't pay with instant money transfer services like Western Union-fraud victims who use these methods have little recourse for getting their money back. Don't buy products when the seller only accepts cash or money orders.

Never give out your social security or driver's license number-don't email or write them on your checks either. Check out the seller and the payment or before handing over your credit card or bank account number. Read the privacy and security policies of online payment or s to make sure your information will be safeguarded.
Keep Records
Print the seller's identification and contact information, the product description, as well as the date, time and price of your bid. Print and save receipts, all incoming and outgoing emails sent and any other communications with the auction house or seller.
