If you've been duped into giving out your credit, debit, or ATM card number, or your bank account number, report the theft to your bank immediately, then cancel your account and open a new one. Contact one of the three credit bureaus and ask them to place an initial fraud alert on your accounts, which will ensure creditors contact you before extending credit. Then be sure to review your account statements carefully over the next few months.
