Instead of spamming tens of thousands of random email addresses some phishers send their deceptive e-mails to employees within a particular company or government agency, members of an organization, or students at a university. When crooks send emails that appear to originate from legitimate sources such as the head of human resources, IT director, or college president they increase their chances of fooling recipients.
