Internships
Legislative Internships
Legislative interns earn 12-15 credits while working full-time in Albany during the spring legislative session. An unparalleled hands-on experience, the legislative internship teaches students to track legislation, prepare and deliver testimony, educate elected officials and develop their public speaking and media skills. Each intern partners with a NYPIRG expert and focuses on an issue area, such as consumer rights, environmental protection, higher education or government reform.
Campus Internships
Supervised by full-time Project Coordinators trained in student development, on-campus interns work closely with their local NYPIRG chapter, earning academic credit for work on campaigns addressing issues like civic involvement and voter registration, consumers rights and environmental protection. Workshops, guest speakers and individual meetings provide interns with a structured educational environment while they learn about local government and gain real-world experience organizing events and campaigns. Public speaking, campaign strategy, media advocacy, research and event planning are some of the skills an intern may learn.
NYPIRG has offices in Western and Central New York, the Southern Tier, Capital District, Hudson Valley, Westchester, Long Island and all five boroughs of New York City.
